Chelsea
star Eden Hazard is part of the ownership group behind a new North American
Soccer League team in San Diego.
Hazard has teamed up with Crystal Palace midfielder Yohan Cabaye, former
Chelsea team-mate Demba Ba and Ba's Senegal compatriot Moussa Sow to form
the new club, which will begin playing in 2018.
The club is currently looking for a venue to "build a privately-financed
soccer complex" in the North County area.
"San Diego is a beautiful place and the love and passion the people have for
soccer made this an easy choice for us," Hazard said.
"My friends and I are honoured to turn this dream into a reality and we
can't wait to get started and win some games."
San Diego is currently lacking a professional soccer team, although former
United States international Landon Donovan is part of a team trying to win a
bid to bring a Major League Soccer expansion team to the city.
