Chelsea
boss Guus Hiddink says he may organise a practice match in attempt to help
captain John Terry get fit in time for the Champions League visit of Paris
St Germain.
The 35-year-old defender has missed the last three games with a hamstring
injury and Chelsea eagerly await his return, having lost Kurt Zouma for the
season due to a serious knee injury.
The second leg of the PSG clash will be on 9 March and the last-16 tie is
finely poised, with Chelsea 2-1 down from the first leg.
Hiddink says he may try to speed up Terry's return to match fitness but
accepts that the player is facing a race against time.
"If he needs a game we might organise a game, an intense game," said
Hiddink.
"Maybe he needs 11 vs 11 at Cobham (Chelsea's training ground) or maybe six
versus six or seven versus seven but with intensity.
"It's very tight, it's very tight (the timescale for Terry to get fit)."
Hiddink, who has revitalised Chelsea since taking charge on an interim basis
in December, says he is determined to be cautious with Terry.
And he does not think the experienced defender will try to rush back in
order to prove he is worthy of a new contract.
"If the medical staff says (Terry can play against Norwich on Tuesday) and
John says so, then I'll be careful," Hiddink explained. "Because I have the
experience in the past with these kind of injuries.
"Someone thinks 'I'm fine, I feel okay', but the demands of the game are a
little bit different than training. I prefer to wait, although everyone is
knocking on the door, I prefer to wait, especially in relation to the games
coming up.
"I don't think (Terry will come back too soon because of his contract
situation). We talked. I said 'Hey, let's take our time', not to rush things
and nothing to do with the contractual situation.
"I have the experience to wait, maybe even a game longer than everyone
thinks."
