Arsenal
manager Arsene Wenger believes Chelsea are too good to go down - but stopped
short of backing Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho is under severe pressure after a dismal campaign of nine defeats in
16 Premier League games for the champions.
Wenger, whose Arsenal side are second and just two points shy of
league-leaders Leicester, does not believe Chelsea are in a relegation
scrap.
But ahead of the Gunners' clash with Manchester City on Monday Night
Football, the Frenchman would not comment on Mourinho, with whom he has a
long-standing feud.
"If you ask me, objectively, if Chelsea will be fighting to go down then I
say: no chance," Wenger said.
"They are going through a difficult spell but they are not in a relegation
battle.
"But I do not want to assess any other things over at Chelsea. My problem is
not them, my problem is the game against Manchester City on Monday night."
Wenger has previously stated he is sympathetic of all managers facing or
suffering the sack and when asked if he shared the same sentiment for
Mourinho, the Frenchman said: "Look, I just gave you an answer."
