Monday
night's defeat at Leicester has not altered Jose Mourinho's position at
Chelsea, according to Sky sources.
City won 2-1 on Monday Night Football to condemn the champions to a ninth
defeat in 16 Premier League games, as many as they suffered across the past
two seasons under Mourinho.
They lie 16th in the table, just one point above the relegation zone.
The Portuguese afterwards said he felt "betrayed" by his players' failure to
implement his pre-match instructions and claimed Chelsea's chances of a
top-four finish are now "clearly" gone.
And club great Frank Lampard, a guest in the MNF studio, said after the game
"something has to change right now" if the Blues are to salvage anything
from the season.
But it is understood there is no change in the manager's relationship with
owner Roman Abramovich, and Mourinho will now get on with preparing for
Saturday's home game against Sunderland.
At the post-match press conference at the King Power Stadium, Mourinho said
he was still hoping that Abramovich keeps him, telling the assembled
journalists: "I want to stay. I hope the board and Mr Abramovich want me to
stay."
Meanwhile, Chelsea will assess Eden Hazard ahead of the visit of the Black
Cats to Stamford Bridge, following his substitution during the first half of
the Leicester defeat.
Hazard landed on his hip after a challenge from Jamie Vardy and, although he
tried to run off the injury, the Belgium forward was in too much pain to
continue.
His condition will be monitored throughout the week, although the whole
squad has a scheduled day off on Tuesday.
