Southampton
are set to sign Oriol Romeu on a permanent deal from Chelsea, according to
Sky sources.
It is understood the 23-year-old defensive-midfielder has agreed personal
terms and completed a medical on Wednesday.
Saints, who have been looking for another midfield player despite signing
Jordy Clasie to replace the departed Morgan Schneiderlin, who joined
Manchester United, are expected to announce Romeu's signing later on
Wednesday.
Romeu joined Chelsea in 2011 but has struggled to break into their first
team and has spent the past two seasons out on loan in Europe.
He made 11 Premier League starts in his first season at Stamford Bridge but
just four during the 2012-13 season, and he joined Valencia for the 2013-14
season where he made 17 appearances.
Romeu spent last term on loan at Stuttgart where he played 27 times and was
an important part of the first team.
Romeu is a former Spain U23 that represented every level of his country's
international set up from U17 until that level.
