Chelsea
have decided to appeal against the red card given to Thibaut Courtois in
Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Swansea.
Courtois was sent off in the 52nd minute for bringing down striker Bafetimbi
Gomis, after the former Lyon striker had knocked the ball past the Belgian
international.
Gomis went on the score the penalty to deny Jose Mourinho’s side an opening
day victory at Stamford Bridge, and the Chelsea manager refused to comment
on the red card after the match.
Courtois is due to serve a one-match ban if the appeal is unsuccessful, and
would miss Sunday’s match against Manchester City at the Etihad.
New signing, Asmir Begovic, is likely to make his first start for the Blues
in goal this weekend if Courtois remains unavailable for selection.
