Luiz 'Emotional' After PSG Win  (Sky Sports)

David LuizDavid Luiz claimed he could not control his emotions when he scored the vital equaliser against his former club Chelsea in PSG’s Champions League victory.

Thiago Silva netted the decisive goal in extra-time as 10-man PSG dumped Chelsea out of the competition on away goals after a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge, but Luiz’s leveller for 1-1 four minutes from normal time was just as crucial.

Luiz, who left Stamford Bridge in the summer for around £50m after spending three years in west London, followed Danny Welbeck’s lead from Monday night for Arsenal against Manchester United by celebrating a goal against his former employers.

“It was good for me to score,” said Luiz.

“I said before I wouldn’t celebrate, but it was so emotional – I couldn’t control myself. Thank you to Chelsea because they support me a lot but also I’m sorry for celebrating.

“My cycle finished at Chelsea and I had a great opportunity from PSG.

“They gave me a great opportunity to try and continue my career. I was very happy at Chelsea but the cycle finished. I respect everyone here.”

The Ligue 1 champions made light of having Zlatan Ibrahimovic sent off in the first half, and falling behind twice in the game, as they overpowered the current Premier League leaders.

Luiz hailed the spirit of his team-mates and called it an “amazing” achievement for French football.

“We played a great game,” the Brazilian said

“When you lose your best player in Ibrahimovic, you say ‘let’s try and keep it simple’ to keep the ball and create opportunities because we needed to score to qualify.

“It was amazing tonight. Every single player gave everything. It’s amazing for everyone. Amazing for Paris as a city. We tried to win the game even with one less man.

"I’m happy to be in the next round but it’s a long way to win the Champions League. It is so difficult. We’ve got to keep our feet on the floor because there are many games to play.”
